Dashain Tihar 2076 feat. Yash Kumar
An early October snowstorm that produced much of southern Manitoba to a halt was no match for the excitement of NCSM community members for this year’s Dashain and Tihar celebration! The occasion marks the two biggest festivals amongst people of Nepali heritage. Both festivals represent togetherness and communal joy encapsulated by the quick planning behind the event. This year NCSM had the pleasure of hosting Yash Kumar, the illustrious and renowned Nepali musician whose musical impact is felt across the diaspora. Yash Kumar, along with Kalpana Timsina, demonstrated the impact through attendees who danced and sang the night away.
Similarly, there was a display of sheer local talent throughout the evening with the countless dances, live band, poetry, songs and other cultural presentation. Winnipeg, and Manitoba, are incredibly fortunate to have the local talent, which continues to engage the audience and represent the diversity of our community on stage. Alongside community members, we also had special guests who continuously support our society (Mr. Terry Duiguid, Mr. Terry Duguid, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South; Ms. Janice Lukes, City Councillor Waverley West Ward; Mr. Jon Reyes, MLA for Waverley). An event of this calibre would not have been possible without countless people’s hard work and contributions, including the volunteers, sponsors, and coordinators. Although the temperature outside was cold, the scrumptious food and energy kept us warm throughout the night.
